Great Wedding Reception Entertainment Ideas

Monday, December 27th, 2010

Weddings are a time for celebration. The bride, groom, and their friends and family all have a chance to rejoice and look towards a bright, happy future for everyone. After all of the planning, preparation, and travel that goes into making the day perfect, everyone could use a little while to unwind and take everything in. The wedding reception is the time to do this, and is a time to welcome the newlyweds as well as let your hair down. Many entertainment ideas exist that will ensure that the wedding day ends on a high note.

Music is an integral part of every wedding reception. The bride and groom enjoy their first dance together to a moving tune, and all of the other dances and merry making need some accompaniment as well. Of course, a professional deejay is a standard fixture at receptions because they are familiar with contemporary songs and all-time favorites that will get any crowd moving. They can also perform some comic relief on the microphone so that spirits stay high. A wedding band is also a good option because it can make guests feel closer to the music when it is played by real, live people; almost like a mini concert.

One way to really make the evening unique is to hire a dance instructor. A reception doesn’t get much more interactive than when everyone is on the dance floor doing the Electric Slide or the Achy Breaky. A dance instructor can organize and choreograph the proceedings as well as make some hesitant dancers feel much more comfortable. Dancing doesn’t need to make up the entirety of the reception, and a magician is the perfect way to take the evening down an amusing path. As the middle portion of the night draws on, people are beginning to let dinner digest and may not be in the mood for a great deal of movement. A magician can perform parlor tricks and larger, more interesting illusions until it’s time to get back on your feet.

If a guest would like to get away for a moment or grab a quick snack, a chocolate fountain is the perfect refuge. Not only is it appealing on the eyes to watch melted chocolate cascade down the fountain, it is even more enticing to the taste buds when a piece of fruit is dipped into the warm, smooth confection. Seating people together who don’t necessarily know each other but who have things in common keeps things interesting as well because it encourages conversation which keeps the reception flowing.

Wedding receptions are meant to be entertaining. A mix of traditional activities with new and exciting pursuits results in a memorable event. Fun and happiness are the name of the game.
